Our original family home of 25 years was devastated by flash flooding three times in quick succession in August 2008. As were not living in a floor plain, we had not previously experienced any flooding, but the local authority suggested that the area could potentially become a flood plain in future. We were faced with the choice of risking repairing and rebuilding the original property or building a new home, and sought advice from our architects.
Admittedly we had very little understanding or experience of working with architects or knowing necessarily what it is that they do and what they contribute to the building process. This whole experience has opened our eyes to the role of architects and their invaluable contribution, both in terms of laying out the interiors in the most efficient and creative way, providing solutions where needed, and in our case really maximising the use of natural light throughout.
Initially we were extremely anxious of taking on a project of this scale and nature. However, we have no regrets and it is a pleasure to experience living in our beautiful home - it would most likely not be here today without the creative minds that brought it about.
